About the Helix Centre

I worked with the Helix Centre, a design studio based within St Mary’s Hospital, London. It was then home to a pop-up studio that brought designers and clinicians together to co-create in the heart of a working hospital.

Helix Centre

R&D & MVP - end of life care

Context: Collaborated with an early-stage startup to explore how digital tools could support patients and families in managing end-of-life care preferences and medical decisions.

Role: Conducted primary and secondary research with healthcare professionals and carers. Mapped user journeys, facilitated co-design workshops, and led early prototyping to test digital content and service models.

Outcome: Produced a low-fidelity MVP that demonstrated how patient data, priorities, and care instructions could be recorded and shared digitally. Insights from the research shaped the direction of the startup’s service roadmap.

Helix Centre

R&D & prototype - head injuries

Context: Commissioned by the Helix Centre to support Head Injury Through Sports in improving concussion response for polo players and first responders. The goal was to help non-medical staff identify and act on head injuries in real time.

Role: Led research and design, conducting stakeholder interviews, field visits, and secondary research. Translated findings into a pitch-ready prototype to guide on-field decision-making.

Outcome: Delivered an evidence-based recognition tool to support faster, safer head injury assessments during matches, later influenced wider sports safety work.
