Garden assistant prototype

Value proposition & proof of concept

Working for a large global DIY retail company, this was a 2-week sprint objective to create a working prototype: a service of value via a chat-bot channel. The result is a blue sky proposition working prototype with 2 journey flows to test for desirability and feasibility.

Role: Product strategy and design. I worked with a developer to build it out. There were just the 2 of us on this project.

Approach: No brief, no user frictions and no time for user formative research. I decided to solve my own personal DIY problem, giving me access to experience and insights all be it from 1 perspective. As I developed the idea my colleague investigated the build. We decided to collaborate once I had user journeys in place.

The problem

A failed gardening project: a roof terrace container garden. It’s proved a difficult and costly 8 year project with plants perishing to over exposure and the higher maintenance of containers.

Kick off session

I borrowed 4 colleagues for a 30 minute kick-off session to discuss my thinking. It was good to bounce off others and board up a quick plan for the next 2 weeks.

Lean persona

A quick lean persona as a starting point for empathy and insights (based on myself!).

Ideate & Story mapping

Using wall space to capture desk research and ideas,I then moved into story mapping features and functions as an end-to-end experience. I could then explore what to design as detailed user journeys.

Product story deck

Details of product strategy were quickly captured in a keynote, easy for anyone to pick up and understand the product.

Experience Architecture

2 user journey flows designed to build, illustrating various features and benefits of the product. In this case, push notifications, personalisation of tasks and product purchase integration.
